Presented is a fabulous quality Dutch silver box. This piece dates to 1816. This is probably a snuff or tobacco box, but could easily be used as a dresser or jewelry box, or to store anything else you like. The lid of the box has a rayed, ribbed design, radiating out from an oval shaped cartouche. This cartouche is nicely engraved with'A. The sides and bottom of the box have a ribbed design as well. This is a great old piece of Dutch silver, well made and with a nice feeling of weight in the hand. The box is hallmarked with the Dutch mark of a lion in a hexagonal punch, for 833 purity silver. There is also a small article mark of a sword and an assay office stamp of a helmeted head in profile. The box has the date letter'G' for 1816. There is a maker's mark of VW which we unfortunately cannot identify. The box is in great overall condition. The hinge is in great shape, and the lid closes well and securely. There are a couple of dents here and there on the sides of the box, which are hard to notice due to the ribbed design. There are no splits, no breaks, and no repairs.
The box has approximate dimensions of 5 by 3 by 1 1/8 inches (LxWxH). The box weighs 198 grams or 6.9 regular ounces.Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution.
