This rare & vintage early 19th century Dutch/Netherlands silver spice container is designed with multiple decorative scenic panels. The rectangular 833 silver footed box has a hinged lid cover with moveable handle. The lid cover features an elaborate repousse' ceremonial scene flanked with panels showing castles, rivers & swans. Cherub accents are visible within the box decoration.
The body of this silver box contains small panels of country gentry & cherubs playing instruments. The bottom of the container showcases three scroll framed panels of cherubs at work & play. There are three distinct hallmarks that I found. On the cover there is a round punch Duty mark containing the head of Minerva with the letter M above. There is the lion passant with the number 2 Purity mark, which identifies the silver content as 833.
Finally, HH, the makers mark of Herbert Hooijkaas from Schoonhoven. There is a "ding" on the right front corner. 1 7/8" tall X 5 5/8" long X 2 3/8 wide.
