Djokja / Yogya silver round box, circa 1930, Dutch East Indies, Indonesia
This round silver box was made in the 1930s by a silversmith in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Decorated with the classic Djokja Lotus flower design. The box closes perfectly and stands solid. Provenance: Bought at an antique shop in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Weight: 164 grams or approx. Height: 3.5 centimeter or approx. Diameter: 9 centimeter or approx. Condition: The box is in a very good condition with regular traces of careful use. The name Djokja / Yogya silver originates from the town name of Djokjakarta, Java, Indonesia. Between 1930 and 1970, a lot of silver was made in Kota Gede, a town next to Djokjakarta. All Djokja silver are hand made and therefore every piece is unique.
