Presented is a wonderful old Dutch silver spoon with a classic repoussé genre scene on the bowl. The hand chased bowl depicts a mother watching over her baby as it sleeps in a cradle.
She is seated in front of a fireplace with a cat curled up in front of it. The bowl has the inscription "Moedervreugde" which is Dutch for'Mother Joy'. The spoon has a double snake for the handle with a cherub's head at the bottom. The back of the handle is engraved, "Marken".The spoon is hallmarked on the bowl with the lion mark for Dutch 833 purity silver and a maker's mark of VK for Gerritsen en van Kempen nv Zeist. The handle is marked with the date letter T' for 1929 and the Minerva's head duty mark including the letter B for the city of Utrecht. There are no dents, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs. The spoon is 8 inches long.
