Dutch 833 silver box, 1924. Rectangular with straight sides and crisp corners. Cover hinged with faceted top. On cover top is The Celebration of the Peace of Münster after Bartholomeus van der Helst (1613-70), depicting the banquet of the Amsterdam civic guard that was held to celebrate the treaty that granted the Dutch Republic independence from the Spanish crown. On the sides, in contrast with this momentous event, are scenes of everyday rural life: Milkmaids, cows, windmills, and thatched cottages.
