Presented is a fantastic Dutch silver covered dish or sugar bowl. This piece dates to 1848 and was made by Nanno Folmer or Groningen. The dish is done in an interesting and visually appealing style, with a lobed lid and base. The finial of the lid is carved from wood, and appears to be original. The marks of hand hammering are faintly visible on the piece, and the bowl was clearly hand made with a high degree of craftsmanship.
The piece is in great overall condition for its age. The lid has a small solder repair and a small split, both of which are not very noticeable. Otherwise there are no problems, no splits, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs besides the one in the lid. The dish is hallmarked with the Dutch large article mark guaranteeing 833 silver purity, as well as a date letter O for 1848, an assay mark and a maker's mark for Nanno Folmer of Groningen.
The dish is about 5 3/8 inches tall including the lid, and measures about 6 3/4 inches from end to end. This piece weighs 389 grams or 13.7 regular ounces.
