The two broadly triangular handles (which give this item the appearance of a footed Scottish quaich) feature grotesque faces and curlicues, and the four divided areas to the sides of the vessel feature: a figure with one hand upraised carrying a book the Bible? In the other; two figures, one holding an anchor, possibly representing Hope; a figure holding a sword and scales, clearly Justice; and two figures, one standing, one sitting, by a bucket. There are three old marks to the base, and the Dutch lion passant for 833 silver overstamped with the key mark, indicating that this item was exported from the Netherlands. There is a further mark to one of the handles (see photograph #7 just above the head).
