FABULOUS 19TH CENTURY DUTCH MINIATURE SOLID SILVER SEE-SAW. This stunning 19th Century Dutch miniature Solid Silver Seesaw, This stunning Seesaw was crafted by the highly sought after 19th century Dutch Silversmith.
I would estimate it dates to circa 1880 making it nearly 140 years old, it is an exquisite example of fine Dutch silversmith work, it is fully hallmarked, you will see to both ends of the moveable seesaw the most exquisite dutch boys dressed wonderfully in breeches a small coat and a round hat, they are having fun seesawing together with the most unusual parrot perched watching from the central open pierced work frame, the detailing to the parrot is wonderful, from his cheeky face with his impressive beak to his lovely delicate feathered wings, the base has a lovely diamond decoration, this is an exquisite Dutch Solid Silver Miniature Toy that works as well today as when it was first crafted, its delightful. The quality of the craftsmanship is superb, this is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice.Lovely condition & fully hallmarked for. Seesaws go by several different names around the world. Seesaw , or its variant see-saw , is a direct Anglicisation of the French ci-ça , meaning literally, this-that , seemingly attributable to the back-and-forth motion for which a seesaw is known. The term may also be attributable to the repetitive motion of a saw. It may have its origins in a combination of "scie" the French word for "saw" with the Anglo-Saxon term "saw".
