Verge fusee''oignon'' pocket watch with beautifully engraved silver inner and outer cases and repeating mechanism hammer striking on bell. Silver outer watch case has an approximate diameter of: 58mm. Dial has an approximate diameter of: 42.5mm. White metal dial could be made to fit watch, has no legs.Inner silver case diameter approximately 50mm. Movement signed Henriecus Lange Straat Rotterdam (Dutch early 1700's). Solid silver case with engraved scenery and nice cut out sections. Inner case has an engraving saying''Ik doe de stoutsten beven'' which rhoughly translates to'' I make the naughtiest shiver'. Which makes sense, as it is a lion saying this. Highly likely that these watchcases, with dutch engravings, are original to this dutch movement, it all fits snugly together. Movement needs work, is probably missing pieces as far as i can see, it has a bell and a hammer, but no fusee chain. The balance looks intact, it has two spring drums, one for the repeating or alarm mechanism and one for timekeeping.
The spring to release the watchmovement from the inner case is broken, so you need tweezers to lift it out. This piece has regular signs of 200+ years of wear and tear. But despite this the engraving is still very deep and easy to read overall. Very rare and highly collectable piece.
