This is an 18th century cut crystal decanter with silver mounts on the bottle and stopper. The base is done in a pierced latticework with scalloped and striated decoration reminiscent of sea shell. The neck of the bottle is decorated with a filagree-like silver band with two figures: a man in top-hat and tails and a pipe, and a woman in a dress with an umbrella. They appear to be dancing. They are holding hands and the man's leg is lifted. The stopper is a sphere of crystal mounted with silver bands and topped with a rearing horse. The silver cap upon which the horse stands is also decorated with figures and the words "GULHARTIGE VRIENDSCHAP, IK WIL AAN U DOEN WAT UW HERTE BEGEERDT, DAVID and IONATH". Please keep in mind that the decoration of the silver is fine and well worn and difficult to read, so there may be variation of a letter or two.
This was made by Johan Roelfsen circa 1785. It stands about 10" tall to the top of the horse and is about 5" across at the widest. The silver mounts are naturally tarnished and there is a tiny fleabite as shown. Otherwise the decanter is in excellent condition.
