I'm not sure of it's age. My best guess places this caddy to the mid to late 19th C, but it could be earlier. It features a wonderful Repousse pastural Colonial? Scene with period figures of men and women (some appear to be dancing) and two men on horseback. This may be of Dutch origins, I'll ultimately let the experts decide.
The figures are artistically surrounded by picket fences, trees, fields and period homes / structures in the background. The wonderful Repousse hinged cover depicts three men inside a room in a colonial home, one smoking a pipe, one drinking from a pottery vessel and the other looking on as he removes his hat. This sterling caddy has a rectangular, octagonal shape. The hinged cover operates nicely and closes securely. On the bottom are two stamped marks that I can't decipher. Perhaps those more knowledgable than me can determine the meaning of the two marks. I welcome any feedback (please see photo of bottom). There are a few shallow indents and a bit of wear to some of the high relief areas (faces). As mentioned in the condition description above, I've left a few small pieces of clear/scotch tape on the silver as I always leave the fine sterling pieces I acquire in the exact condition I find them in. The tape fragments should be removable with a good cleaning/polishing which I leave to the discretion of the new owner. This is a fine old sterling silver tea caddy in excellent condition. It will display beautifully in your collection. To ensure a safe arrival.
