Original Georgian period Antique Diamond Cross, approx. 38 x 30 mm (1 1/2 x 1 1/4), with a hinged Gold pin fastener. The sparkling Dutch rose-cut Diamonds are claw set into Silver cut down collets with foiled lining and closed backs.
The largest Diamond is approx. 8 x 6 mm, spreading 1.5 cts and the four adjoining measure 5 x 4 mm, spreading 0.5 cts each. The exact weight is not possible to determine for such old irregular Diamonds but they are relatively large for the time when Diamonds were comparatively rare. My ring shown is approx.
0.6 ct weight but a full modern brilliant cut to show you the approx. Georgian Crosses often have a conical setting just tipped with a tiny grey flat sliver of Diamond to highlight their metalwork. The setting here is minimal giving a large area of glittering angled facets with superb reflectivity from the foils beneath. The Rose Gold reverse and hinged long pin reads around 14ct on a Mizar tester and was added to prevent tarnish from Silver marking clothing. No marks as expected for age of piece. European in origin, possibly Flemish or Dutch as Diamonds larger than those of the typical French regional crosses.
Beautiful sparkling piece with triangular facets of Dutch rose-cuts very noticeable as the stones are quite deep in profile. The diamonds seem relatively clear stones of good quality - the largest stone has a small original diagonal cleavage plane visible only in certain directions.Very wearable with any daytime or evening clothing - subtle silver mount gives low key note to brilliant Diamonds.
