Nice traditional 18th century Dutch spoon. Heavy gold plating over 833 silver. The terminal is cast and the bowl is hammered. The figural finial is a sailor, with a cross in his poke, next to his wife and baby, an anchor at her side. The back of the bowl is hand engraved " AI 1782 ".
The bowl is large measuring 2 inches x 3 inches. The weight is 57.7 grams. The bowl is stamped on the back with a 17th century Dutch marking.
There's a mark made of dots that resembles a "9". That is likely where the assayer tested the silver content that allowed the spoon to acquire the dolphin mark by law.
